The Inn was built
in 1810 and is one of Essex's finest architectural landmarks. It has
operated almost continuously since the
early
lake port days, making it one of the longest lived structures in town.
Extensively renovated in 1986, the building stands poised once again
to provide for the comfort of its guests. We're open year round.
Almost 200 hundred years of existence, this famous old inn's goal is still
to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere where a traveler can feel
they have reached a true destination. Our overnight accommodations
include nine rooms filled with antiques and treasures we have collected
throughout the years. Some of the pieces were purchased right here
in Essex during our annual vacation visits.
There are two dining
rooms, a backyard garden seating amongst perennial gardens, or tables
that stretch across the front veranda for those who would like to
view the historic village while dining. Owner and chef, John is sure
to delight all who sample his culinary talents.
The historic hamlet of Essex is located on Lake Champlain, south of
Four Brothers' Islands, and north of Split Rock lighthouse. Essex
is in a time capsule, where a sense of past has survived. One is impressed
by beauty and uniqueness of the setting as well as by the architecture.
The entire hamlet is on the national register of historic places.
