By Car:
The simplest way to reach Essex by car (on the New York side) is to take
Interstate 87, getting off at either exit 31 (coming from the South) or exit
33 (coming from the North). If you're coming through Vermont, the Charlotte-Essex
ferry is the easiest, as it will drop you off right in town! The scenic
20 minute ferry ride across Lake Champlain leaves every half hour from
Charlotte, Vermont (which is right off Route 7, only 30 minutes South of
Burlington). Essex is 5 hours from New York City, 6 hours from Boston, 7
hours from Philadelphia, 2 hours from Albany, 1.5 hours from Montreal, 30
minutes from Plattsburgh, and 40 minutes from Lake Placid.
By Plane:
The closest airports to Essex are located in Burlington, Vermont and Albany,
New York. Once you arrive in either of those two cities, see the "By
Car" section of how to get to Essex.
By Train:
Amtrak's "Adirondack"
stops right in Westport, which is only 20 minutes South of Essex. Then
take Route 22 from Westport to Essex by car.
